“As I deliver this convocation address, my heart is suffused with joy as I consider it a special honour to conduct the third convocation in my tenure as Vice-Chancellor for graduands of the 2022/2023 academic session.

“As it is the established our culture and tradition, convocation ceremony, is our annual academic ritual that officially marks the passing out of graduands from their various academic programmes of the University”.

He said convocation ceremony provides an enabling platform for the institution to unfold its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to stakeholders, stressing that being his third and final convocation as Vice-Chancellor, “it has become imperative to make some important remarks.

“There are no doubt that Delta State University has come of age as it now a household name not only by admission seekers but their parents and guardians as it is one of the universities most sought after in the country.

“Our graduands, no doubt have been known to have proven their mettle in various fields of endeavors.

“Convocation ceremony as we know is the final rite of passage where graduands are commissioned into the society as finished products of the University, the hallmark of which is evident in the adorning gown each graduand is wearing, the sobering hood on it the dignifying mortarboard and certifying scroll they hold.

“Indeed, it is a moment that calls for self evaluation on the part of the graduands.

“However, like every other human engagement, I consider the convocation ceremony not only as a final rite, but also as beginning of another.

“Today’s graduands are graduating into the world of countless opportunities. These opportunities lie low and high, depending on how you look at them”, he said.

Meanwhile, the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the institution and the graduands for the performance
