BREAKING NEWS: Cairo Ojougboh Slumps, Dies In Abuja

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ika south local government area of Delta State, Chief Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, has died in Abuja, The Story can authoritatively report.

Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ika Federal Constituency in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly (NASS), died on Wednesday eve of 7th January 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria.

Chief Ojougboh, who held the title of Akinuwa of Agbor Kingdom, died while watching the AFCON match between Nigeria and South Africa national teams.

Trouble started when a penalty kick was awarded against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, during the AFCON match with South Africa on during the semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory coast.

It was learnt that as soon as the South Africa team scored against Nigeria, Dr. Ojougboh reported to have screamed and before collapsing.

It could not be ascertained whether he was having any health challenges which triggered occasioned by the shouting as a result of the penalty win against Nigeria.

Dr Ojougboh, was a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party before defecting to the APC where he played active roles.

He was also a Director General of the Coalition For Peace and Unity, and former member of the Federal House of Representatives, having represented Ika Federal Constituency.

In the highly apprehensive fight, William Troost-Ekong, the Captain of the Super Eagles, had scored a penalty at the 67th minute for the Nigeria team, before the Nelson Mandela’s kinsmen were awarded a spot-kick.

Their equaliser came after Nigeria thought they had scored a second goal through a tap-in from 2023 African best player, Victor Osimhen.
The play was called back after VAR alerted the Egyptian referee that South African Percy Tau, was fouled in the 18-yard box of Nigeria, leading to the abortion of Osimhen’s goal.

The game, however, ended with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory in favour of Nigeria, sending the Super Eagles to the final of the tournament.
