Anambra Governor Presents N140 Billion 2021 Appropriation Bill To State Assembly

Determined to maintain the January-December budget cycle, Governor Willie Obiano, has presented a budget of N143.65 billion as 2021 Appropriation Bill to Anambra State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

According to the governor, N86.9 billion representing 6.5 percent of the capital budget, is allocated to the economic sector, while N356.8 billion naira is allocated to the social sector.

The recurrent expenditure is projected to take 39.5 percent of the total budget size, translating to N56. 77 billion while the remaining 6.5 percent translates to N8.88 billion is for the capital expenditure.

The sum is expected to drive the 2021 budget theme of Economic Recovery and Consolidation, which would help sustain the past performance and ensure maintenance of Anambra’s status as a hub fo business and a destination for new investments.

Highlighting the sectoral capital plans, Governor Obiano said that roads and bridges would gulp N32 billion, explaining that while N19.44 would be spent on the construction of new roads as well as rehabilitation of existing ones, stating his administration’s plan of completing 50 ongoing road projects in the three senatorial zones of the state.

He added that the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) would be sufficiently funded for effective road maintenance in the state.

The Speaker, Rt. Honourable Uche Okafor, assured the governor that the Assembly would ensure accelerated passage of the bill.

Present at the ceremony are Sectetary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili, Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, members of the state executive council, Deputy Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Sunday Okafor, others.

Recall that Governor Obiano had postponed the 2021 budget presentation by one week, following the #EndSARS protests and unrest across the country.
