Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko has extended a warm welcome to Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and other prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as they officially defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, April 28, 2025.
In a statement issued ahead of the historic event, Senator Nwoko described the move as a “symbolic and transformative step” for Delta State and the Anioma people, emphasizing the urgent need for greater political inclusion at the national level.
The defection ceremony, expected to be graced by high-ranking political figures, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, and the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, marks what Nwoko termed “the beginning of a vibrant new era for Delta.”
“Our people can no longer afford to be left on the margins of national politics,” Nwoko declared. “We must stand as key stakeholders where decisions are made, where opportunities are created, and where the future of Nigeria is being shaped.”
Reflecting on his earlier defection to the APC, Nwoko expressed deep satisfaction with the growing momentum within Delta State toward what he called “progressive politics.”
He stressed that the mass movement of top political leaders into the APC would consolidate Delta’s influence at the national level and amplify the voice of the Anioma people.
“The movement of the Governor, former Governor, and the broader political structure into the APC is not only significant; it is profoundly symbolic,” Nwoko stated.
“Together, we will build a stronger New Delta, a prouder Anioma, and a better Nigeria.”
The Senator, who currently chairs the Senate Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft and the Senate Committee on Reparation and Repatriation, reiterated his optimism for the future, calling the defections a “new beginning” for Delta State.
“As we welcome our new members into the progressive family, I am filled with tremendous optimism that this political realignment will foster greater development, inclusiveness, and prosperity for all Deltans,” he concluded.
