DELTA 2023: Confusion In Oborevwori’s Tent, As Court Directs INEC To Obey Order Sacking Him

2832

There is yet another uneasy calm in the camp of Sheriff Oborevwori, the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), in Delta State following a “Notice of Consequence of disobedience of Court Order”, on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The National Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, may risk imprisonment if the judgement sacking Sheriff Oborevwori, as the governorship candidate of PDP and replacing same with Olorogun David Edebvie, in Delta State is not fully complied with.

This is contained in a Notice of Consequence of disobedience to Court Order which was equally served on the National Legal Adviser of INEC, Mr. Festus Okoye, threatened to commit the duo to prison on the continuous disobedience to the judgement delivered by Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo, in Abuja.

The notice reads: “TAKE NOTICE that unless you obey the directions contained in the order of the Federal High Court dated the 7th day of July 2022, you will be guilty of CONTEMPT OF COURT and will be liable to be committed to prison”.

The Notice issued by the Federal High Court Abuja, was dated 21st of July 2022 and was signed by the Court Registrar.

The Notice for service on the Contemnors Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and Festus Okoye was published on pages 20 and 21 of This Day Newspaper of Saturday July 30th 2022.

It would be recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, had warned the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Oborevwori, to discontinue to parade himself as the governorship candidate of the party in Delta State for the 2023 general election.

The presiding Judge, Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo dropped the warning on Thursday July 7th 2022, in a judgement he delivered between Olorogun David Edebvie, as Plaintiff, PDP, INCE and Oborevwori, as Defendants, saying Oborevwori “supplied false information and submitted dubious or forged credentials/certificates”.
