The Office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced the postponement of an empowerment programme targeted at 500 women in Rivers State.
This was disclosed on Saturday April 26, 2025, during the official flag off of empowerment items to 500 women in each of the States in the South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
The empowerment items include deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and grain grinding machines through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Addressing the women entrepreneurs, the Chairperson of the Renewed Hope Initiative and wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said the empowerment was going on concurrently in all the states in the zone except for Rivers State.
Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Lady Catherine Onyeme, the RHI chairperson, said: “this event is taking place simultaneously in all the states in thel zone except for Rivers State whose event has been rescheduled to May 2, 2025”.
According to her, “this event acknowledges the vital role women play in Nation building and it also align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the programmes focuses on empowering women economically”.
The empowerment initiative, which was scheduled to provide financial support and vocational tools to women entrepreneurs, was expected to boost small businesses and offer relief amid Nigeria’s tough economic climate.
However, the cause of the postponement was not disclosed, whether it was associated with the volatile security situation in Rivers, fueled by deepening political tensions
