NGO Holds Basketball Tournament To Hunt For New Talents In Delta

A Non-governmental Organization (NGO) known as Nigeria Women Basketball Organization (USA), has set the ball rolling for the empowerment of women in sports during a basketball tournament organized by the NGO.

Addressing journalists at the indoor Sports room of the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, the President of the Organisation, Nwoye Chioma, said the aim of enlightening the female of getting involved in basketball while in school.

“There is a lot of opportunities for you playing basketball because you can just get into the United States and that is one of the reasons we are doing this, to give them opportunity so they can play abroad”.

She disclosed that the players stand to gain a lot from the tournament as there are prize tag between N150, 000, N100, 000 and N50, 000 prizes for the first, second and third positions respectively.

She said she wanted the kids to have fun aside the money involved so that they could be harvested young with their talents showcased abroad.

“We talk to coaches abroad and high school colleges so when we get these talents they have the opportunity to get scholarships to come play in the United States”.

Also speaking, Secretary, Delta State basketball Association, Mr Okocha James, head Coach, Delta State Basketball, Aikoroje Benson, retired Director of Sports, Delta State, Mr Aina James and founder cum Former Head Coach, Mr Gbugbemi Fregene, commended the president of the NGO, for giving back to society.
