The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for visiting the State House of Assembly Quarters without prior approval.
Wike argued that Fubara should have waited for permission before attempting to enter, especially after demolishing the Assembly Complex in December 2023. Speaking at a media chat in Abuja, Wike insisted that the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly had the right to decide whether to grant Fubara access.
The controversy arose after Fubara was locked out of the quarters while attempting to re-present the 2025 budget, following the Supreme Court’s February 28 ruling that affirmed Amaewhule as Speaker. Despite notifying the Assembly in advance, Fubara was denied entry, prompting criticism from Wike.
“If you write a letter to the Assembly, won’t you wait for a response? He is playing to the gallery. He carried television people to make a show of it. Who does that?” Wike questioned.
He further accused Fubara of seeking public sympathy, calling his actions “rubbish” and insisting that proper protocol should have been followed.
