The Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) has predicted that Delta State would experience flooding this year as a result of heavy rainfall.

The agency has given early warnings to enable affected states to take immediate action that would prevent the flood from impacting negatively on their state.
Meanwhile, the State Ministry of Environment has advised people living in the River Banks and low land areas to move to the higher lands or place of safety.
According to the ministry, “All owners of illegal structures such as buildings and caravans blocking natural waterways are to remove them and people should stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drains to avoid blockage”.
Authorities of the local government councils in the state, traditional rulers, community and opinion leaders have been called upon to step up preparedness against the flood prediction to reduce the level oF destruction of properties and avoid loss of lives.
