Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has broken his silence on the motive behind his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He stated that the move was aimed at securing continued development for his constituency and preserving the strategic advantage of his speakership.

Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Agbebaku officially notified the House of his switch to the APC, explaining that the decision was driven by a desire to align with the current leadership in the state for the benefit of his people.

“As Speaker, if I throw away this position because of party loyalty, this position that can bring development to my area, it would mean I’m not ready to serve my constituents,” he said.

Agbebaku cited strong support from his constituency, Owan West, pointing to ongoing development projects initiated by Governor Monday Okpebholo as a key influence in his decision.

“My constituents support my move because of the visible impact of the projects going on in Owan West. I believe they are happy with this decision,” he added.

The Speaker emphasized that beyond party lines, members of the Assembly are united in working with the governor to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Edo State.

“There is no party in this House. We are all committed to supporting the governor’s vision to move Edo State forward,” Agbebaku concluded.
