The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, has been honoured with the Outstanding Leadership Award in Education for her exemplary contributions to the transformation of higher education in Africa.

The award was presented at the 3rd African Education Summit, held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Themed “Translating our Educational Advancement to Continental Development,” the summit brought together key stakeholders in African education, including university leaders, policymakers, and development partners, to forge a collective path toward educational excellence across the continent.

Organized by Global Skills Hub UK in collaboration with African education stakeholders and the Government of Zimbabwe, the summit featured plenary sessions, workshops, and panel discussions covering a range of critical topics.

These included foundational learning, digital literacy, climate change education, equitable access to quality education, curriculum reform, and strengthening school-to-industry linkages.

Participants also deliberated on sustainable models for education funding, calling for greater involvement of international partners and private sector stakeholders in advancing the continent’s educational infrastructure.

In his opening address, Zimbabwe’s Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Torerayi Moyo, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to educational progress and urged all participants to contribute actively toward shaping the future of education in Africa.

Speaking to the UNIDEL Media Team, Prof. Chiemeke described the summit as a vital platform for collaboration and innovation.

“This gathering provided an excellent opportunity to share groundbreaking ideas, research, and practices that are transforming education across Africa. It was both inspiring and empowering,” she said.

Reflecting on her award, Prof. Chiemeke expressed deep appreciation and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing education at the University of Delta and beyond.

“This recognition is both humbling and motivating. It encourages me to continue pushing boundaries in education and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s academic renaissance,” she added.

Also in attendance was UNIDEL’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patricia Mbah, who participated in various high-level discussions on academic leadership and strategic development.

The next edition of the African Education Summit is scheduled to take place in Ghana in 2026, as the movement to reshape Africa’s education landscape continues to gain momentum.
