The recent denial by EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, that the commission played no role in Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not only laughable, it insults the intelligence of Nigerians.
Let’s be clear: the EFCC chairman was appointed by President Bola Tinubu, and it is no secret that he acts at the behest of the presidency.
To claim independence in such a politically charged investigation is disingenuous at best.
Okowa’s sudden embrace of the APC is a calculated move to shield himself from prosecution over his alleged financial mismanagement and looting of Delta State to the tune of ₦1.3 trillion during his tenure as governor.
One must ask: why was Okowa’s defection celebrated with such fanfare? Was it not in Asaba that APC heavyweights, Kano’s former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other party stalwarts, gathered to openly receive Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the APC fold? Is that the behavior of a party unaware or disapproving of Okowa’s political crossover?
Okowa’s entire political journey, Senator, two-term Governor, and PDP Vice Presidential candidate, all occurred under the PDP banner.
Now, he conveniently jumps ship to APC, not for ideology or public service, but to bury the skeletons in his closet.
Let’s not sugarcoat it: Okowa defected to avoid prosecution. Oborevwori followed to secure his reelection. The people of Delta State are not fools.
This charade won’t erase the damage inflicted upon the state’s economy or the unanswered questions surrounding massive corruption allegations.
The EFCC and the APC government insult the public’s intelligence if they believe this stunt will silence scrutiny or erase guilt.
The truth remains glaring, Okowa’s defection is not politics, it is protection.

Okowa joined APC to cover up his financial crimes against Delta state when he was governor. Why did APC leadership accept Okowa as a supposed member and it was celebrated by Tinubu and APC?
Did Ganduje and VP Shettima not recieve Okowa into APC in Asaba? Who is who in APC were in Asaba to celebrate Gov Oborevwori and Okowa’s defection from PDP to their party.
A fool will know that Okowa defected from PDP to APC. Okowa was elected Senator under PDP representing Delta North. Okowa was elected twice as Delta governor under PDP.
Okowa contested as vice presidential candidate with Atiku as presidential candidate under PDP and here he has defected to APC as what?
Okowa’supposed defection from PDP to APC is for APC’s administration headed by Tinubu to abandon his 1.3 trillion naira investigation and thwart his trial in court.
I repeat clearly that Okowa defected to cover up. Gov Oborevwori defected to APC to guarantee his second tenure.
No person can be deceived that Okowa’s supposed defection is nothing but to hide his economic sins against Delta state.
Do EFCC and the ruling APC’s administration led by Tinubu think Deltan people can be fooled?
