Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM, a philanthropist par excellence, has built, furnished and donated the best equipped hospital one could find anywhere across Delta State to the Catholic Church for ease of medical treatment and services.
The hospital mounted by Dr. Onos Broka, with other health workers is a 40-bed health institution with staff quarters, theatre, labour Wards fully equipped with the state of the art facilities.
The hospital which is now operational, would afford indigenes and residents of Oginibo and neighbouring communities in Ughelli south local government area, the opportunity to seek prompt medical attention rather than travelling several miles for same purpose.
No doubt, this is the kind of quality leadership the leading industrialist in Delta State, Olorogun Gbagi, would reciprocate when he assumes office as governor of the state come 2023.
To build and freely transfer a hospital of this capacity to the Church by the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), for the service of his people, is a signature statement of extraordinary leadership.
The former Chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, irrespective of his political affiliation or the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) government in power, he has demonstrated love for his people, showing his connection with them.
Rather than give out money, a common practice among politicians, the former minister of State for education, decided to hand over a structure that would impact better on the lives of Deltans.
The hospital would go a long way in saving lives, particularly that of women and children.
The state, local governments and the ministry of health should therefore swallow its pride to ensure that the hospital was efficiently managed and ensure that it received priority attention.
The SDP frontline governorship flag bearer said the gesture was for the people of the community and its environs to benefit from what God has done for him as part of activities to mark his birthday
“Today is my birthday and I want to thank all of you for finding time, particularly on a working day like this to support me with your presence.
“A lot has happened, it calls for serious and plenty more celebrations.
“Just this morning, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, had awarded me a national honour
“As part of my birthday, I plead with the great men of God that we as a family is dedicating and handling over a fully furnished, bulit, a 40 bed hospital to the Catholic world.
“Nothing will be greater in life, there is no point that me insisting that I want to go and be a governor and my people are dying with strive. That was why my wife and I thought of this hospital.
“The hospital as you will see and commission it in few minutes, is fully equipped. So equipped that we are ready to take in patient today.
“We have Solar, we have NEPA, we have a generator. We made it the way it ought to be”.
