FRSC Blame Road Crashes On Human Factor, Seek Collaboration With Media, Others

Delta State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corp Udeme Bassey Eshiet, has blamed road accidents on human factor.

The Road Safety boss, stated this on Wednesday June 21st 2023, when the leadership of Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC) paid him a familiarization visit at his office in Ibusa, Oshimili north local government area of the State.

He said that the FRSC as an agency saddled with the responsibility of traffic management and road safety, has reduced road crashes since he assumed office, expressing determination to bringing it to a barest minimum.

He identified overloading, overspending, none adherence to safely tips and others as reasons for accidents on the road.

He said: “So far, there’s been a reduction in road crashes but we would prefer to take it down even more.

“We are doing everything necessary to reduce overloading, it causes imbalance in vehicles, increase the number of casualties, if there’s a road crash.

“We are in partnership with armed agencies to work at night to reduce haulage cars (trucks) from carrying people, Regardless, we also have the challenges of not being armed.”

“We need the media to join hands with us to help us propagate our messages, we urge you to carry our messages to the grassroots for safer roads in delta state.”

While speaking on the activities of the Corp Udeme disclosed that “We offer much to the public beyond what they imagine, we carry out public enlightenment on the proper use of the road.

“We are currently embarking on the wet season driving, we hope to meet a large chunk of the people at public spaces like the church amongst others”.

Earlier, Chairman of the Chapel, Kenneth Orusi, told the Sector Commander, the need to enforce road safety tips as some drivers engage reckless driving.

Orusi, sought ways of partnership with the FRSC to ensure the activities of the Corps are adequately disseminated through the various platforms in the chapel.
