…Hilary considers other platforms
In a dramatic turn of events that could reshape the political landscape of Delta State, particularly Delta north Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, a widening rift has emerged between former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and his long-time political associate and loyalist, Hilary Obioma Ibegbulem.
Sources within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) confirm that tensions have been brewing between the duo over the party’s zoning arrangement and preferred candidate for the 2027 Delta north Senatorial ticket.
The disagreement reportedly escalated after Okowa allegedly endorsed another contender, the current serving member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Victor Nwokolo, sidelining Ibegbulem’s long-nurtured ambition to succeed in the federal’s top seat.
Ibegbulem, who served as Principal Secretary to Okowa during his tenure as governor, is widely known for his grassroots mobilization and significant influence across Delta North and parts of Delta Central.
His perceived exclusion from Okowa’s succession plan is seen by many insiders as a breach of long-standing political loyalty.
In what many are interpreting as a direct challenge to Okowa’s dominance within the PDP, which he recently dumped for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibegbulem is said to be seriously considering a defection to the Labour Party (LP), a move that could significantly alter the balance of power within Delta State politics.
Several sources close to Ibegbulem’s camp suggest that high-level consultations are ongoing, with talks already initiated between him and key Labour Party stakeholders at both state and national levels.
A senior PDP official who spoke under condition of anonymity expressed concern, saying, “If Hilary leaves, it will create a deep crack in our structure.
“He commands a massive youth following, and we can’t deny the impact that will have.”
Political analysts note that this development not only signals a personal fallout but also reflects the growing internal discontent within the PDP’s Delta State chapter.
It also underscores the rising allure of alternative platforms like the Labour Party, which is positioning itself as a viable vehicle for aggrieved but ambitious politicians across the country.
A source who requested anonymity revealed that Hillary, during a recent conversation, firmly stated, “It’s the Senate or nothing.”
Efforts to reach both Okowa and Ibegbulem for official comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
However, close aides from both camps remain tight-lipped, suggesting that internal reconciliation efforts may still be underway behind closed doors.
Observers believe the fallout, if not swiftly resolved, could lead to a realignment of political forces in Delta State, with potential national implications as the 2027 elections draw nearer.
Take note. Gov sheriff has taken over as APC leader in Delta State so before indirectly Okowa is delta State APC leader. If u know u know.
Hilary Obi Ibegbulem is now in charge, watch out how d game will be played out
Let’s keep our fingers crossed and watch as events unfold, Hillary at Red chamber is the best for everyone.
How the cookies do actually crumble. 2027 is a determinant force in view of political direction and leadership in Delta state. My take however is that we are tired of a self serving Victor Nwokolo. Let’s give a fresh hand a try. No one ganners experience except given the opportunity. Injection of flesh blood is of utmost benefit thenceforth.
