Terrorists have launched bomb attack on Kuje Medium Prison, Abuja, throwing the entire area Council into confusion, as the first explosion, a high capacity bomb, went off around 10.25pm.
There are fears among residents that the correctional center is under attack by armed men.
A resident of the area, Joshua Friday, said that the shootings have been ongoing for the last 20 minutes.
“Currently in Kuje and the shooting has been going on for almost 20 minutes now.
“I can’t tell you what is happening whether it is a robbery or not but we have been hearing that gunshots repeatedly around the area the prison is located. We are all scared as I speak to you”.
It was followed by second and third blast and sporadic gunshots that left the residents scampering for safety.
Few hours earlier, security report had alerted the prison officials of possible attacks of the medium prison.
A prison staff, who confirmed the attack in a chat with Daily Sun, explained that the attackers had come from the back of the prison yard.
