Abuja, Nigeria – Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians to reject politicians with questionable character, emphasizing that the country can only progress when its citizens refuse to accept wrongdoing in governance.

Speaking at a book launch in Abuja, Jonathan stressed that the political class would only act responsibly when held accountable by the people.

“I believe one day, we all Nigerians will say we no longer accept the wrong thing. And the day we all collectively say we no longer accept the wrong thing, we the political class will behave normally,” he stated.

Jonathan further suggested the creation of two symbolic buildings in Abuja, one to honor leaders who served the country with integrity and another to document those who contributed to its failures.

“Maybe one day, we will have two big buildings in Abuja, where we will put pictures of people, even if they are dead, and say these are the people who really messed up this country.

“So that their grandchildren will come and know that their grandfathers were part of the problems of the country,” he said.

His remarks have sparked discussions across the country, with many Nigerians on social media supporting the idea of increased public accountability for past and present leaders.

Political analysts argue that Jonathan’s statement reflects growing public frustration over corruption and mismanagement. With elections approaching, many citizens are calling for a shift toward transparency and responsible leadership.

Jonathan’s speech serves as a reminder that the power to shape Nigeria’s future lies in the hands of its people.

As the country prepares for the next political cycle, his words may influence voters to scrutinize candidates more closely and demand higher ethical standards from their leaders.
