In a decisive move aimed at bolstering transparency and accountability in the governance of Rivers State, the Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator Ede Dafinone, the senator representing Delta Central in the National Assembly (NASS) and 17 others into an oversight committee to monitor the activities of the Rivers state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd.).

The committee, announced during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, is tasked with providing effective legislative scrutiny over the administrative actions of the Sole Administrator.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, will chair the committee.

“This committee will play a critical role in ensuring that the activities of the Sole Administrator are conducted with transparency and accountability,” Akpabio stated, emphasizing the urgency and importance of the assignment.

He further noted that the committee’s composition could be reviewed after ongoing consultations, signaling the Senate’s flexible and inclusive approach to legislative oversight.

The appointed members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong.

Others are Senators Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed from Jigawa, alongside the Clerk of the Senate.

Akpabio urged the committee to immediately commence its oversight duties, reiterating the Senate’s unwavering commitment to democratic governance and the promotion of the public interest in Rivers State.
