In a dramatic move aimed at resolving the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly sought forgiveness from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Sources confirmed to DAILY POST that the meeting took place at Wike’s residence in Abuja and was facilitated by prominent political figures including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba.
According to eyewitness accounts, Fubara, familiar with the residence, walked directly into Wike’s living room and pleaded for reconciliation.
While details of the closed-door meeting remain guarded, a reliable source confirmed that it indeed occurred, though he declined to comment on whether it had led to the lifting of the emergency rule in Rivers State.
This development follows a reported meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London, amid escalating tensions in the oil-rich state.
The rift between Fubara and his political godfather, Wike began shortly after the former assumed office in 2023.
The feud intensified to the point where President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing threats from Niger Delta militants and risks to national assets.
In a sweeping federal intervention, Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the entire state House of Assembly for six months, appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee state affairs during the period.
Commenting on the crisis, Wike had previously revealed he wanted Fubara completely removed from office, but credited President Tinubu with stepping in to prevent further escalation.
The recent meeting between the two leaders may signal the beginning of a fragile reconciliation process, though the full political implications remain to be seen.
