Staff of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have dismissed as baseless recent publications by faceless individuals seeking to undermine the Council’s appointment of new principal officers.
In a statement signed by Comrade Moses Oghenekome Ogege, Mr. Fine-Boy Doubra, Mrs. Sarah Kattey, Mr. Ossa, and Mr. Alen Igwe, the staff expressed full support for what they described as a transparent and merit-driven appointment process by the University Council.
“Their allegations are not only baseless but also a disservice to the truth and to the progress NMU has recorded under the current leadership,” the statement read.
According to them, the process began with the Council’s approval of an advertisement for the vacant positions, which was subsequently published in two national newspapers and circulated on the university’s official staff platform.
The positions advertised were for Registrar, Bursar, and University Librarian.
A Selection Committee was then constituted, along with the engagement of three independent consultants—each assigned to one of the positions.
Following a rigorous and transparent interview process, the top-performing candidates were recommended to the Council and appointed accordingly.
“This process was a model of fairness and due process. It adhered strictly to principles of merit and integrity. One, therefore, wonders what the anonymous authors of these claims consider lacking in transparency,” they stated.
The staff affirmed their collective satisfaction with the decisions of the Governing Council, highlighting widespread celebration across the campus.
They also passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the entire Council, particularly commending the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Alhaji Abdulahi Bardi, for his visionary leadership and contributions to NMU’s growth.
Condemning efforts to mislead the public and stir discord, the staff emphasized that NMU is a place of excellence and not a ground for anonymous propaganda.
“The progress recorded here is not speculative; it is visible, measurable, and verifiable,” they said, urging the media and stakeholders to disregard the false reports and continue supporting the university’s steady progress.
