Tension flared at a recent empowerment programme when a group of angry women openly booed former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, at Idumuesah, Ika north east local government area of Delta State

The incident occurred during what was meant to be a celebration of women’s economic empowerment, but quickly turned sour as the women expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises and lack of tangible support from previous initiatives.

In the video which has since gone viral, women rose as soon as Okowa took the stage to address them to express their dissatisfaction, interrupting the event in demand for accountability and transparency.

Many claimed they had been repeatedly sidelined in past empowerment schemes.

Okowa, visibly unsettled, cut his speech short before he continued after intervention came through.

The event has since sparked widespread debate on the effectiveness of political portfolio empowerment programmes in the region.

It was gathered that Okowa was at the event on his continued ward-to-ward empowerment program, this time in Idumuesah, where he has consistently reached out to his constituents.

During this visit, some women raised concerns over the omission of their names from the empowerment list, reportedly due to lapses by the coordinators in charge.

The video circulating online actually shows the moment the women called out the organizers responsible for the exclusion, thereby preventing Okowa, from speaking in the viral video on circulation.
