It’s been 365 days since the passing of Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Omemevwa Gbagi, but members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ughelli South are still deeply mourning the loss of their iconic leader.
Late Gbagi, a prominent political figure, businessman, and advocate of justice, passed away in 2024, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate across Delta State.
Known for his fearless leadership and unshakable commitment to the development of his people, his death created a vacuum that remains unfilled.
Members of the Ughelli South chapter of the SDP gathered in reflection today, marking the one-year remembrance of a man they described as “irreplaceable.”
Many of them say the party has yet to recover from the blow his death dealt to their political structure and morale.
“He wasn’t just a politician, he was a father figure, a mentor, and a visionary,” one party member stated. “One year later, the pain is still fresh.”
Party leaders noted that Gbagi’s legacy of empowerment, philanthropy, and bold leadership will continue to guide their principles and actions.
They reaffirmed their commitment to preserving his vision and building upon the foundation he laid.
The anniversary is expected to be marked by a series of low-key events including prayers, visitations, and a wreath-laying ceremony in his honour.
Late Olorogun Gbagi was a former Minister of State for Education and the 2023 SDP governorship candidate in Delta State.
His contributions to national dialogue and grassroots development earned him widespread respect across party lines.
