In a statement that reflects both commendation and professional scrutiny, The Story Publisher, Mr. Kenneth Orusi, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Chief Patrick Ukah on his election to the National Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), at the ongoing Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Chief Ukah, a seasoned public relations practitioner and respected figure in Delta State, emerged victorious in the keenly contested NIPR national elections held in UYO, Akwa-Ibom State.

Chief Ukah, the traditional title holder of Akatakpo Eyi I of Okpanam Kingdom, previously served as Commissioner for Information and Secondary Education before his appointment as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), a role in which he distinguished himself.

He currently serves as the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, where his leadership continues to make a significant impact.

His new role places him at the helm of strategic decision-making in one of Nigeria’s most critical professional communication bodies.

Mr. Orusi, while acknowledging Chief Ukah’s contributions to the advancement of public relations practice in Nigeria, emphasized the weight of expectations that come with such a prestigious role.

“This is no doubt a deserving recognition of Chief Ukah’s years of dedicated service, strategic communication skills, and advocacy for ethical PR practice,” Orusi remarked.

“However, the task ahead is enormous. The credibility of the Institute depends on bold reforms, transparency, and strong advocacy for professional standards in both public and private sectors.”

He further challenged the newly elected council to address lingering concerns within the profession, including the need for stricter enforcement of ethical codes, better inclusion of younger professionals, and a clearer roadmap for repositioning the NIPR as a proactive stakeholder in national development.

“The council must rise above ceremonial presence and deliver measurable impact.

“Our democracy and institutions are in dire need of the kind of strategic communication leadership NIPR is meant to offer,” Orusi concluded.

As Chief Ukah assumes office, industry watchers and stakeholders alike will be looking to the council for a renewed sense of purpose, integrity, and relevance in the fast-evolving landscape of public communication in Nigeria.
