Senator Ned Nwoko has renewed his bold campaign for the creation of Anioma State, describing it as a historic opportunity to restore the identity, dignity, and development of Delta North.

In an exclusive interview with Leadership Newspaper, the lawmaker emphasized that the movement transcends politics, aiming to unify the Anioma people and correct long-standing marginalization.

“Our people were massacred during the Civil War,” Nwoko recalled. “In communities like Asaba and Ishiagu, families were torn apart. Many had to suppress their identity to survive. Creating Anioma State will help us heal and reclaim our heritage.”

The call for Anioma State gained momentum following a major political shift in Delta State, as thousands of grassroots members, primarily from the Delta Unity Group (DUG), defected from the PDP to the APC during a high-profile rally in Agbor.

The event featured top political leaders, including APC National Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje and Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

“The defection shows that our people are ready for real change,” Nwoko stated. “It’s about progress, unity, and building a future that reflects our identity and aspirations.”

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for supporting key infrastructure projects in Delta North, including two dam initiatives valued at nearly N30 billion in the 2025 federal budget.

These investments, he said, were a major factor in his decision to align with the APC.

“This level of commitment from the federal government wouldn’t have happened under the PDP,” he noted. “President Tinubu delivered, and that’s the leadership we need to make Anioma State a reality.”

Nwoko underscored that the proposed state is economically viable, with rich deposits of oil, gas, and solid minerals, and is well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to national growth.

“Anioma State is not just a dream, it is a necessity,” he said. “It represents justice, opportunity, and a new beginning for our people.”

With growing support and a renewed national conversation, Senator Ned Nwoko believes Anioma’s moment has come.

“This is our time. One people. One voice. One dream. Anioma State is the future we must build together
