In a major boost to women’s economic empowerment, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), led by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has empowered 500 women entrepreneurs in Delta State through its economic empowerment programme.
At a vibrant ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Asaba on Saturday, April 26, 2025, women from across Delta State received vital business equipment, including deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and grain grinding machines.
This intervention is part of a larger nationwide effort targeting the empowerment of 18,500 women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Her Excellency, Lady Catherine Onyeme, wife of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, represented Senator Tinubu at the event.
In her address, she emphasized the critical role women play in community development, stating: “Today, we witness the tangible manifestation of what it means to invest in the heartbeat of our communities, our women.”
She lauded the First Lady’s initiative, noting that the tools provided would not only support small businesses but also foster financial independence, bolster household incomes, enhance food security, and contribute to a dignified standard of living.
“Let us not forget that when a woman is empowered, a family is lifted. When a family thrives, the community is strengthened. And when communities grow, the state and nation blossom,” Lady Onyeme added.
Also addressing the gathering was Deaconess Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, wife of the Delta State Governor and founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Evangelist Princess Pat Ajudua.
Deaconess Oborevwori echoed similar sentiments, urging beneficiaries to utilize the resources responsibly:
“Empowerment is not charity; it is capacity building. Today, we have built capacity that will shape a brighter future.”
The programme aligns closely with Nigeria’s broader objectives of poverty alleviation and hunger eradication, two core pillars of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
It reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth through focused partnerships and genuine intervention.
Beneficiaries were encouraged to seize the opportunity to build sustainable businesses and become catalysts for economic growth within their communities.
As the Renewed Hope Initiative continues to impact lives across the nation, today’s event in Delta State stands as a strong testament to the transformative power of empowering women, one community at a time.
