In a strategic show of party strength and unity, leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 5 in Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area, have passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the leadership of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as other key elected representatives from the region.
The vote of confidence, which was moved by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Talent Development, Mr. Ugaga Ogheneyole, and seconded by another party member, was endorsed during an enlarged ward meeting held on Friday.
The gathering focused on strategies to further strengthen the PDP and formally welcome new members defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP).
In addition to Governor Oborevwori, the vote of confidence also extended to Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon. Godwin Ogorugba, Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council; and Hon. Bernard Odior, Member representing Isoko North in the Delta State House of Assembly.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sunny Uthoro, a former senior aide to the ex-Secretary to the State Government and a prominent APC figure, described his return to the PDP as a deeply personal and politically significant move.
“Leaving the PDP for the APC was a regretful decision,” Uthoro said. “Today, I have returned home. The APC has failed to offer the people anything meaningful. The PDP remains the only party committed to true grassroots development.”
He was joined by Mr. Precious Anudo, who led a group of Labour Party members into the PDP. Anudo cited the PDP’s performance and the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance as the driving force behind their defection.
“Our people have seen the difference,” he said. “The PDP has done more for Delta State, and we believe that come 2027, Governor Oborevwori’s re-election will be a resounding victory.”
Other former APC leaders, Akpoyibo Obiovo, Bright Oziwele, Yanke Omote, Onos Elijah, Emeni, and James Ighota, acknowledged previous grievances but commended the PDP’s leadership in Owhelogbo for reaching out and reuniting political stakeholders. They pledged to support the party’s renewed focus on development and inclusivity.
“Politics is about delivering results for the people,” one of the returning leaders stated. “Any politician who fails in that responsibility has lost the essence of public service. We are back to build, not to divide.”
Also speaking, Mr. Ujiri Otobo, another former APC stalwart, praised the PDP’s achievements and expressed confidence in its continued dominance in the state.
“Governor Oborevwori’s leadership has proven that the PDP is a party of progress,” Otobo said. “With the right support, we will take the party to even greater heights by 2027.”
Executive Assistant to the Governor on Petroleum Monitoring and PDP Ward 5 chieftain, Mr. Mike Ogwah, expressed deep appreciation to the ward leaders and party faithful for their unwavering commitment to the governor’s vision and the PDP’s agenda.
“The mass return of APC and Labour Party members is a clear indication that the PDP remains the preferred choice for the people of Isoko,” Ogwah said. “The 2027 re-election of Governor Oborevwori is already shaping up to be a landslide.”
Representing Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko at the event, Mr. Sunny Elueni assured the decampees of full inclusion in the party’s activities, reaffirming that no member would be sidelined.
PDP Ward 5 Chairman and Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, Mr. Benedict Ulebe, officially welcomed the returnees and urged all members, new and old—to work together for the continued progress of the ward and the state.
“With unity and focus, we are building a stronger PDP,” Ulebe said. “Together, we will ensure that Governor Oborevwori is returned for a second term in 2027.”
