In a development shaking the already fragile political fabric of Delta State, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi has lauded the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as both “bold” and “strategic.”

In a statement signed by his media aide, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, Senator Nwaoboshi welcomed Governor Oborevwori and other defectors into the APC, calling their entry a significant consolidation of the party’s strength across Delta State.

According to the embattled senator, who himself defected from the PDP under controversial circumstances, the political realignment will serve as a critical boost to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ambitions, positioning Delta as a stronghold in the APC’s expanding southern strategy.

Nwaoboshi, currently navigating his own political and legal battles, framed the governor’s defection as a “game changer” for Delta’s political trajectory. He praised Oborevwori’s decision as a “strategic step” toward what he called the “unity, progress, and advancement” of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, despite widespread skepticism about the sincerity of such realignments.

He further emphasized that this shift marks a pivotal moment for governance and political collaboration in the state, subtly acknowledging the transactional nature of power in the current political climate.

Calling for party unity, Nwaoboshi urged APC members to receive the new entrants “with open arms,” warning that internal divisions could undermine the supposed dividends of this political gamble.

> “As you step into this new chapter with the APC, be assured of my unwavering support and that of many other progressives who believe in building bridges rather than walls,” the senator stated.

“Together, we shall consolidate this momentum and build a Delta State strategically positioned to benefit from its new alignment with the Federal Government.”

While the senator projects optimism, critics argue that Oborevwori’s defection, rather than symbolizing genuine political reform, only deepens the culture of opportunism and ideological bankruptcy that has long plagued Delta politics.

With the state’s governance hanging in the balance, and loyalty appearing more fluid than ever, Deltans are left to wonder whether this “game changer” will finally deliver real change, or simply rearrange the players at the table.
