The Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba, has teed off its highly anticipated Captain’s Day Golf Tournament, a week-long celebration of sport, friendship, and tourism scheduled from May 5 to May 10, 2025.
The event is being championed by the Club Captain, Patrick Ukah, who also serves as the Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA).
The tournament aligns with DSCTDA’s strategic goal of promoting recreational engagement and positioning the Capital Territory as a tourism destination.
Speaking on the occasion, Ukah described the tournament as “more than just a sporting event,” noting its role in fostering camaraderie, business networking, cultural exchange, and tourism awareness.
“We welcome golfers and guests from all over the country and encourage them to experience the unique hospitality of Delta State,” he added.
This year’s edition has attracted top-tier players including Tony Uduimoh, Donatus Isuku, Victor Enaigbe, and Samson Okorhi, with golfers also expected from premier clubs such as Benin Golf Club, Ogunu Golf Club Warri, Sapele Athletic Golf Club, Tiger Golf Club Ibadan, Enugu Golf Club, Aba Golf Club, and Ikoyi Club 1938.
Highlighting the state’s endorsement of the initiative, Deputy Governor Chief (Sir) Monday John Onyeme will attend the grand finale on Saturday, May 10, to perform the ceremonial tee-off.
The DSCTDA emphasized its dedication to using sports and recreation as tools for urban development and public engagement, with the Captain’s Day tournament serving as a flagship event in that mission.
