As part of the Delta State Government’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure, the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, conducted an inspection of various road projects within the capital territory on March 6, 2025.

During the visit, he directed contractors handling the projects to submit a comprehensive work plan aligned with government specifications.

The inspection aimed to evaluate the progress, quality, and compliance of the ongoing projects with the state’s infrastructure policies.

Key locations assessed included: The Ogbeogonogo Market stormwater project down to Ogbeilo through Ugbeke Square and the Okonweze Street project, off Ezeni Avenue.

Others are the Odozi Obodo/Aninta/Anenta Street construction, off Ezeni Avenue and the rehabilitation of Jarret Street and the construction of Kano Street/Okocha Street, off Dennis Osadebay Way, Asaba.

Chief Ukah commended the engineers for their dedication and adherence to high standards, urging them to maintain the momentum for timely completion.

Speaking to the press, he provided updates on the projects’ progress:

The Jarret Street rehabilitation and Kano/Okocha Street construction are 95% complete and nearly ready for commissioning.

Okonweze Street is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Odozi Obodo Street may extend into April, but he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work so far.

Ukah also highlighted gaps and funding challenges, noting that efforts were being made to address them.

“Through the technical inspection, we have identified some gaps and funding challenges which are addressed”, he acknowledged.

While praising the contractors for their work, he cautioned against practices that could damage the roads and drainage systems.

“It is disappointing to see some businesses, including hotels, indiscriminately discharging water onto roads and drainage systems.

“This practice threatens the durability of our infrastructure,” he stated.

He warned that the government will not tolerate such actions and called on residents and business owners to adhere to proper waste disposal methods to sustain road development in the state.
