In a sustained and strategic crackdown on violent criminal elements, the Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in its war against kidnapping and armed robbery.
A release on Monday May 26, 2025, by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Edafe Bright, said revealed that two successful operations led to the arrest of key suspects and the recovery of a cache of deadly weapons.
Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on actionable intelligence, have once again disrupted the operations of a notorious kidnap-for-ransom syndicate known to operate across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States.
On 20th May 2025, officers arrested one Abubakar Hassan (male, 30 years), a native of Niger State but resident in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The suspect, identified as the ringleader of the syndicate operating along the Ughelli-Ozoro axis, led officers to a forest hideout near Ozoro where two AK-47 rifles, 32 rounds of live ammunition and four AK-47 magazines were recovered.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover more arms.
In a separate operation on the same day at about 1630hrs, officers attached to the Safer Highway Patrol Unit conducted a routine stop-and-search operation along Ughelli Road.
Their vigilance paid off when a search of a vehicle led to the recovery of one locally fabricated revolver pump-action single-barrel rifle, 15 rounds of live cartridges and one can of chemical mess spray teargas
The suspect, Obi Ezekiel (male, 38 years) from Kogi State, was immediately arrested. Preliminary investigations are ongoing.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the professionalism and dedication of the operatives. He emphasized that the Command will continue its relentless offensive until all criminal elements are flushed out.
“The Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to secure lives and property. We urge residents to remain vigilant and cooperative by sharing credible information with law enforcement agencies,” CP Olufemi stated.
He issued a stern warning to criminal elements, asserting that the Command is actively tracking threats and will leave no hiding place for those involved in nefarious activities.
